On May 9, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University celebrated Europe Day in Ukraine at the former Residence of the Metropolitans of Bukovyna and Dalmatia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Europe Day, celebrated annually on May 9, celebrates peace and unity in Europe.
In accordance with the decree of the President of Ukraine, a unique event, the "European Flashmob", was held during which the largest picture of the European Union flag was created, reflecting our commitment to European ideals and values.
The event was implemented within the framework of the European Union's Erasmus+ project Jean Monnet Module "Integration of European Values into Ukrainian Education, Science, and Sport."
The National Anthem of Ukraine was performed by the People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor Ivan Derda, and the European Anthem - "Ode to Joy" - was performed.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Rector, Professor Roman Petryshyn; Vice-Rector, Professor Tamara Marusyk; Honorary Consul of Austria in Chernivtsi, Liudmyla Osachuk; Consul of Romania in Chernivtsi, Dan Constantin. Project team members, Professors Yaroslav Zoriy, Yuriy Moseychuk, and Associate Professor Yaroslav Galan.
The student choir "Resonance" of the Department of Music performed under the direction of Professor, Honored Artist of Ukraine Olha Churikova-Kushnir.
Roman Petryshyn made a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and adding that this integration plays a key role in creating sustainable and transparent educational and scientific platforms for future generations.
The Romanian Consul in Chernivtsi, Dan Constantin, outlined the basic information about the European Union, emphasizing its mission to promote peace, stability, and prosperity among its member states by strengthening economic, political, and cultural ties.
Project coordinator Yaroslav Galan emphasized the importance of holding events that promote the integration of European values into various spheres of life, arguing that this is the key to strengthening democracy and human rights in Ukraine.
The sports flash mob was organized by students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Human Health under the guidance of Olena Moroz, Master of Sports in Rhythmic Gymnastics, Associate Professor.
The culmination of the event was the creation of a unique and symbolic work of art - the largest flag (painting) of the European Union, two meters long, by the hands of the participants. This art project will not only reflect our solidarity and support for European values but will also symbolize Ukraine's deep cultural ties with Europe. The painting is an expression of our desire for unity, peace, and cooperation among the peoples of Europe and will emphasize Ukraine's role in shaping a common European future. Participation in the creation of this flag will give everyone the opportunity to leave their own mark on this meaningful symbol, marking our common path to peace and prosperity in the European family. It is a symbol of the European Union and the Council of Europe - a blue cloth with 12 yellow stars.
Students of the Department of Decorative and Fine Arts also took part in the creation of the painting.
