April 23, 2026, the National University of Water and Environmental Engineering hosted a guest lecture as part of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module project “Integration of European Values into Ukrainian Education, Science, and Sport” (EVUESS), co-funded by the European Union.

The event brought together faculty members, researchers, and students from the Educational and Scientific Institute of Public Health to discuss an extremely important topic—the promotion of European values in Ukrainian education, science, and sports.

The aim of the lecture was not only to present the project and its main achievements but also to demonstrate how important it is today to foster a modern environment based on democracy, respect for human dignity, partnership, openness, solidarity, and shared responsibility for Ukraine’s future.

Project Coordinator, PhD in Physical Education and Sports, Associate Professor Iaroslav Galan, delivered the lecture, presenting the main results of the project’s implementation, its key achievements, future plans, and opportunities for engaging students in international academic activities. Particular attention was paid to the integration of European values into Ukrainian education, science, and sports; the formation of a European identity; the development of active youth; and the implementation of modern approaches in working with students.

During the lecture, key achievements within the project were presented, including the organization of winter and summer schools, roundtables, an international conference, events marking Europe Day in Ukraine, the opening of the Jean Monnet Office, the inauguration of the Jean Monnet Alley, and the unveiling of the Bench of Unity. All these initiatives are not merely events, but concrete steps toward strengthening the European vector of development for Ukrainian education and society as a whole.

The lecture took place with the support of Igor Grygus, MD, PhD, Professor, and Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Health Care at the National University of Water and Environmental Engineering, Ihor Hryhus, who emphasized that the implementation of European Union projects, active collaboration among colleagues, and the involvement of students are extremely important and relevant in today’s context. The outcomes presented within the project will undoubtedly serve as a powerful impetus for new joint initiatives, the strengthening of partnerships between universities, and the further development of international cooperation.

The lecture participants also took part in a survey in which they expressed their own views, attitudes, and understanding of the integration of European values into Ukrainian education, science, and sports. This served as further evidence that the topic of European values resonates deeply within the academic community today and is an important part of shaping a conscious, responsible, and active younger generation.

All lecture participants will receive certificates as part of the project, which served as an important motivational component of the event and a pleasant confirmation of their participation in this significant initiative.

Hosting such a guest lecture is of special significance to us, as it is not only another step in the project’s implementation but also a significant contribution to the development of European thinking, the promotion of academic unity, the strengthening of inter-university cooperation, and the affirmation of values that are crucial for Ukraine’s future today.

Together, we are shaping an educational space where European values become a living practice, an inspiration, and a guide for new generations.
